How to Deal with Severe Hail Damages?

Hagel is thought to cause damage to property and crops of up to $1 billion or more annually. You most likely know how the grass has an impact on the property if you are in Oklahoma, Florida or any surrounding state.

Hailstorms may shake windows, damage the exterior of the building and, above all, damage and destroy the roof. It is likely to come into a hailstorm in your commercial building in the Midwest and damage may occur when that happens. Even a relatively small hailstorm may compromise your commercial roofing system's waterproof integrity. Ask your roofers in Panama City, FL or Colorado Springs to know better about it.

Hail Damage Inspection

You should at least conduct a visual inspection of your roof after a hail storm. Cracks, fractures, tears and/or insect punctures can be seen, and these problems must be taken into account immediately.

But all hail damage can't be so visible. Unclear damage may well in the future lead to roof leaks and fails. It could be a result of a long-forgotten hailstorm if you notice internal ceilings or wall discoloring or water drop without an apparent source.

Hagel can weaken the roofing membrane even though leaks do not occur, thus shortening its lifespan. Consider also the effect on the isolation underlying. Hail can cause dent insulation and separate the facer from the inner section. This can lead to an unstoppable roof membrane, a reduction in stress and resistance to problems in the future.

Caution against Long Term Damage

Hagel can weaken the fixation or adhesive bond between the insulation and the membrane, depending on the type of commercial roofing system on your building, which may become worse over time. After a prolonged period of time, an extreme weather event could cause the membrane to become completely detached; the original hail damage could have been the cause.

So make sure that your commercial roof continues to provide waterproof protection by contacting ReRoof America for professional inspection, whether there are leaks, or clear signs of hail damaging. We have specialized in the inspection, repair and installation of commercial and industrial roofing systems. We can identify all kinds of damage to the roof and, in case of a loss, try to talk to your insurance company in order to determine a suitable and efficient approach.

How far can hail damage the roof?

The storm intensity as the shape of the grasses depends on the condition, type, and age of the roof, the wind speed and direction. Although the grass is of small size, sharp hail and stone concentration can cause substantial damage. We saw damage to the roof by 3⁄4" of hail and no major 4" hailstones problems.

On average 1" hailstones are considered as large enough, depending on their roofing age, type of substrate, and entire condition of roof, to damage certain commercial roofing system. Naturally, bigger hail will create more major problems.

Always very resistant to grass are metal roofs but can be shaved. Insurance may or may not cover a dentate metal rooftop claim, since certain carriers determine that denting is only a cosmetic damage that is not covered by the policy.

Ballast materials are almost impermeable to salute if they are not close to the end of their useful life. Spray foam roofs are very vulnerable to hail damage and must be inspected immediately following a hailstorm. Hair storm strikes may be broken by blisters or ribs in modified bitumen or roof systems.

Although the extent of the hair damages may be a factor of membrane thickness, the density of the central scrim density, age and rigidity of the substratum. Other membrane roofing systems (such as PVC or TPO) may be resistant.

At Reroof America, we have experienced roofers who can help you with a proper inspection and the follow-up work that should be done.
